The question comes up fairly often in my peer groups, “does cannabis help or is it harmful when dealing with the stress that comes with COVID-19”? While marijuana has been shown to have many therapeutic effects, as with many plants, people are curious on whether or not weed can help the negative symptoms that inevitably come with COVID-19.
With the cases of COVID-19 still rising and the new variants that have been showing up, scientists and researchers are on the hunt for new ways to help reduce some of the symptoms, such as dry coughing, body aches, and nausea, without causing more issues. They are looking in areas such as our favourite plant, in hopes that something can be done. We know that cannabis can help us relax and have a good time but is it possible that it can also help us breathe when we are suffering from the coronavirus?
COVID-19 and CBD
Cannabis has many different, interconnected elements that make up the whole plant. CBD, for instance, is used in many forms to help release tension that can be built up within the body. So how does this help with covid? To put it simply, covid creates inflammation in the lungs causing people to go into coughing fits and making it harder to breathe; this is why people with critical conditions are usually hooked up to ventilators, they can’t breathe. What causes this inflammation with covid is the cytokine storm that is produced within the lungs due to the extreme number of cells being stimulated to try and fight infection. The cytokine storm isn’t specific to covid itself, but rather what accompanies covid, similar to many upper respiratory infections that send us into coughing fits, resulting in having tight chests that mom’s vapor rub helps to alleviate. (1)
CBD plays into this by calming the system and helping to release inflammation according to a study done in 2020. (2) We can then hope that even if we have some of the worst symptoms of COVID-19, we might be able to still alleviate the cytokine storm and reduce the potential scarring on our lung tissue, byproducts of covid that could cause some issues later on down the road. Even having a small storm raging in our body is not beneficial to our health and can cause scarring of the lung tissue if we don’t properly care for it.
What’s the best way to use Cannabinoids with COVID-19
We don’t want to cause any extra inflammation so my recommendation would be to avoid smoking or vaping the beautiful flowers that we all love so much. Instead, try putting some CBD/THC oil into a hot cup of peppermint or chamomile tea. You can purchase CBD oil at a CBD oil online store such as nobadhaze online weed shop. If you want faster absorption, try orally ingesting the recommended dose underneath the tongue; hold it there for at least 10 seconds. You might also want to try our gummy cannabis leaves! It is a nice way to ingest some CBD/THC into the body without having to smoke and you can buy from a reputable source. Gummies are also just pleasantly tasty and my favourite if you are not a fan of the taste of a tincture. There are many different ways to use weed to help the system so it’s best to find your favourite and make sure that you are purchasing from a reputable source, especially if you are buying from an online dispensary.
If you don’t want to consume THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, then we also
offer just CBD products. CBD is the non-psychoactive ingredient in weed and can offer a lot of relief on its own especially as a CBD oil.
How else does weed help during quarantine?
I don’t know about you but I also get bad anxiety when I have to be locked away to save my fellow humans. Of course, there’s video chat and social media but anxiety comes in many forms. Due to the cortisol levels being lowered in the brain from lack of human interaction to produce serotonin, we need to find other ways to get that serotonin in so we don’t become stir-crazy. The great thing about our friendly neighborhood weed is that it can curb the anxiety that builds even if you think you are too old. (3, 4) Science shows that there are many benefits with CBD for all ages. Cannabis can also be used to help curb our everyday aches and pains. This is especially true in quarantine and with covid in general as while in quarantine sitting on a couch for too long can cause some hip tension that radiates up the spine. Using weed to alleviate the pain is always an added plus. (5) However, while it does help with pain, we want to be careful with using the right products to target the painful areas so using salves or lotions instead of consuming cannabis might be a good way to go about that as well.
With all of this in mind, you can’t really go wrong with weed. While it might not cure COVID-19 it could potentially help to alleviate some of the pesky symptoms that come with it. So not only do you get a nice relaxing evening with your favourite binge worthy show but you also can help tone down the coughing if used correctly with medicinal products. In my own personal testimate, CBD has definitely alleviated quite a few of the symptoms I have experienced with COVID-19 such as those pesky body aches as well as headaches so you can rest assured that even on a small scale, we do our own personal research here. As always, you should consult with your health care provider before consumption to eliminate any negative reactions that might happen with current medication. Here at No Bad Haze weed shop online, we strive to make sure we produce quality products and as accurate and reliable information as we can but we are definitely not physicians. As always, we hope you have a safe and happy high!
